Design and Technology

Course Description

Through a range of projects students will design and make a final outcome, having identified a need or problem for a target market. This process will include a range of techniques and skills which will include:

  • Designing
  • Researching
  • Making
  • Evaluating

There is a wide range of Cad Cam equipment and hand tools of  which students will be trained to use skilfully and safely.

 

Learning outcomes

At Key Stage 3 students will be given the opportunity to design and make a range of products using wood, metal, plastic, card, paper, fabric and smart materials.

At Key Stage 4 students will be given the opportunity to  further development their skills in designing and making products whilst considering the industrial process. We currently offer Resistant Materials at Key Stage 4.

Teaching methods

Teaching is through technique and process-based activities with both theory work and practicals.
