Learning at Icknield Community College is organised into four faculties: English and Modern Foreign Languages; Science and Technology; Humanities and Arts; and Maths and PE.
At Key Stage 3 (Year 7, 8 and 9), 80% of subjects, including all academic subjects, are taught in sets. This enables students of all ability levels to be taught at an appropriate pace. Students are not streamed (ie in the same sets for all subjects), but set according to their strengths in each individual subject. Sets are reviewed on a half termly basis and students can move up or down sets according to the progress they are making.
At Key Stage 4 (Year 10 and 11), students are set for the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, PE, PSHCE and RE. We offer a wide range of GCSE options and a small number of students study vocational courses in off-site settings.
